STUDENT LEADERSHIP ROLES :
Ōtamarākau School is a Year 0 to 8 full primary school where our tamariki are supported right through from their early years to the end of intermediate. We are proud to offer a nurturing, family focused environment where every child is known, valued and encouraged to succeed. More than 98% of our Year 6 students choose to stay on with us for their intermediate years, and that says a lot about what we offer. Our Year 7 and 8 students are given real opportunities to step up and lead. They grow in confidence, take responsibility and become positive role models within our kura.
Our senior prefects are often the first people visitors meet. They welcome guests, represent our school with pride and take on important roles in both school and community events. They support younger students, help at parent and whānau evenings, and are involved in special occasions like our ANZAC service, community events, school fishing competition and discos. These experiences help build leadership, teamwork and a strong sense of belonging. At Ōtamarākau School, we believe learning is a partnership with whānau. We love seeing families involved in school life, whether that is coming along to events, supporting learning or simply being part of our community. When whānau feel connected, our tamariki thrive.

Our leadership opportunities extend beyond our senior prefects. Students can also take on important roles within our Peer Mediators, PE shed monitors, ICT team and bus team. These groups give our tamariki the chance to contribute in meaningful ways, support others, and take responsibility across different areas of school life. Whether it’s helping resolve playground issues, managing sports equipment, supporting digital learning, or looking after our bus routines, our students take pride in making a positive difference every day.
