Welcome to Ruma Kererū
Welcome to Ruma Kererū, the senior room at Otamarakau. The Year 7 s and 8s have kicked off the year in fine style – getting straight into some quality learning but still able to enjoy plenty outside the classroom, from Friday Technology to Hockey training, Zero Waste in Schools, Basketball, Tennis, Top Schools, School Triathlon and much, much more.
In class we are enjoying a healthy balance of digital learning, through Mathletics, StepsWeb, Epic reading and Read Theory, together with small group teacher time. We’ve certainly written a lot so far this term too– atmospheric narratives, personal statements, created ‘Angry Videos’ and retold stories from the hugely engaging Literacy Shed. In Art we have enjoyed using a range of media, from pastel and paint to dyes and crayon, creating self portraits in the style of Picasso, our own visual pepehas.
We also shoulder major leadership duties through the school, from leading assemblies to peer mediation at lunchtime, organizing events such as the school disco, sausage sizzles and much more.
